While some visitors will find your site through links on other websites, search engines and your ongoing marketing, many others will simply land there, not too sure how they got there. This sort of thing happens to me regularly where I’m looking for something, then follow links and more links and eventually find a really useful and interesting site. Then once I’ve left the site I’ve been unable to find it again. The solution is to bookmark it.

The way to get visitors to bookmark your site is to ask them! Of course to do this you need to offer them a benefit. For example let’s imagine you’re running a site for sailing enthusiasts. Visitors will need to see some immediate benefit to bookmarking your site. So if you say,

This site is regularly updated with the industry’s top sailing jobs. Bookmark this site now to make sure you don’t miss out on the best opportunities.

You have a textbook marketing strategy, which is to offer a benefit followed by a call to action.

Note:

Don’t only include an invitation to bookmark on your home page. Many visitors may reach your site in different ways. Include invitations and reminders to bookmark your site on a number of different pages
