Conclusion
Famous Last Words
If you have followed the methods that are explained in this book, you are now able to rent an apartment or buy a house, buy a car, obtain medical care coverage and insurance, deal with your employment, pay your taxes, and manage your finances. Should difficulties or disputes in your various business affairs arise, as they inevitably will from time to time, you should be prepared to deal with them. The methods you have learned in this book will enable you to handle the business and legal matters you confront with minimum investment of time and money. You must be sure when you are working with these matters that you ask all the questions you need to ask to be certain that each item is taken care of the way you intend. If you are talking to a landlord about your apartment lease, do not be afraid to ask, Are there any charges in this lease besides the deposit and base monthly rent? If you are buying a term life insurance policy to provide expenses for a child in case you die in the next ten years, do not be reluctant to ask the agent, How long does this policy give me the absolute right to renew it and what is the cost?
Give the Other Person a Time Limit for Resolving the Matter
A lot of the people involved in legal disputes would just as soon let them go on forever. For you, however, the idea is to get the dispute over as quickly as possible and get on with your life. Therefore, you should give the other party a reasonable amount of time to conclude the matter, but not excessive time. For most disputes, it is reasonable to expect a reply, one way or the other, within a week or two.
Review the Facts of the Matter Accurately At the Beginning of Your Letter
If you are complaining about something the other person did or failed to do, get the dates and other specific facts, such as names, exactly right. This shows the person receiving the letter that you are serious and ready for further action if necessary. Do not include unnecessary facts in your letter, since they confuse the matter and weaken your letter.
